Microfinance chips in

THE PNG Microfinance Ltd presented a cheque of K10,000 to the Halivim Wantok disaster appeal.
Managing director of PNG Microfinance Paul Thornton said the company’s staff at its Popondetta branch had been victims of the recent flooding caused by Cyclone Guba.
“Following the flooding, it took us some time to relocate all of our staff from Popondetta branch. They are all safe but some who come from the Oro Bay area lost their homes and their food gardens. As an employer, we are looking at ways in which we can help them restore these aspects of their lives,” he said.
Mr Thornton said the company had a broader role to play in assisting the general population of the area affected by the floods.
“We are confident that the Halivim Wantok disaster appeal will ensure that the funds get to those in need,” he said, adding that the company is ensuring that its Popondetta customers have access to financial services.
