Women held lowly in WHP

By SENT TIMBI
WOMEN in Western Highlands are treated like second class citizens.
Many of them, including young girls, suffer in silence because the law is too lenient and leaders failed to address violence against women.
This concern was raised during an awareness campaign on violence against women by various groups in Mt Hagen last Friday.
Sgt Susan Mondia from the community policing and Maggie Numdi from Mt Hagen Chamber of Commerce told hundreds of people that violence against women was a big issue in the province, yet not much attention was given to it by the authorities.
Sgt Mondia said many families broke up because men continued to attack wives, forcing them to run away, leaving behind innocent children to suffer.
