Welgris urged to strive for the top

By HENRY MORABANG
WELGRIS Highlanders must start winning the remaining games to stay within striking distance of the competition pace setters in the National Soccer League (NSL) competition.

Coach Pius Letenge admitted yesterday that his charges need to lift their performances if they want to be part of the finals.
Letenge said his major problem is that the Highlanders do not have a player who have quality of a good leader ñ by leading and organizing the defence and offensive plan for his team.
He said his major downfall in the last two games was because of no good midfield players to organise and lead the boys.
Letenge will call on his reserve players such as Philip Apo, Aaron Japu, Bonny Mathew and Bradley Bakuwai to stand-in for Garry Moka (injured) and Beckham Yanum (red card) against Madang Besta Fighters.
He said he will retain the same line-up except for the two replacemens for Moka and Yanum against the Besta franchised team.
Letenge would be calling on Anton Pipo (goal keeper), Rogder Miamba, Paddy Ruben to man the backline while Mathew Apo, Samule Kinu and Ian Yanum to look after the midfield.
Upfront, Koriak Upaiga will support Taumata Golo to ensure they have enough opportunities to score goals against Besta Fighters.
Madang Besta Fighters coach John Gringo has a big task on his hand when they play in front of the home crowd.
Giringo will rely on his son, Tarcisius Mandarip to man the backline while Mol Buran in the midfield while Johnson Romo and Niel Hanz to look after the frontline for the opportunities.
Hanz has developed a tendency of playing good football at home and this will certainly a bonus for the home side.
It should be an interesting match to follow.
