NBC donates K20,000 towards Oro fund
THE National Broadcasting Corporation has come forward
with assistance in kind as well as pledging a donation of K20,000 in
cash towards the people of Oro affected by the recent flood.
The donation of 30 pieces of items including suitcases, bags and cartons
of clothes as well as cartons of cooking and eating utensils were
presented to the chairman of the Port Moresby-based Oro disaster appeal
committee Robin Kasi in Port Moresby last Friday.
The managing director of NBC Joseph Ealedona said the radio station
would be donating K1,000 each from their respective trust accounts to
make up the K20,000 which he said would be presented to Mr Kasi and his
committee next month.
Mr Ealedona thanked the National Broadcasting Corporation Oro staff who
initiated the appeal to help the people back in their province.
He said that as the national broadcaster, it was NBC’s job to react
quickly to help people in the province.
Mr Ealedona said that NBC had also made it possible for them to air post
trauma counselling to help the people back to normalcy and also to
update the people on distribution, especially pick-up and drop-off
points for relief supplies.
So far, his committee had distributed more than 40 tonnes of food to the
border areas in Oro-Milne Bay covering Kevansasap to Kira on Morobe
border as well as Ioma-Kokoda, Afore, Tufi and Wanigela.
Meanwhile, Mr Kasi thanked the NBC Oro staff and its management for
donations as well as for putting NBC Oro back on air as he said “the
level of communication is important in any disaster”.
“I’d like to thank you for making it possible to ensure the people know
what is happening there back in their home province,” he said.
