All defective street lights around Kimbe town will soon be fixed and new ones erected.

The provincial government has made available K100,000 to the Kimbe urban local level government for the work to start.
Kimbe town mayor Leo Kalasi, while presenting the K100,000 cheque to the branch manager of PNG Power, said all the defective street lights around the main streets within the town area would be fixed and some new ones would be erected around selected spots.
Mr Kalasi said previous governments had neglected the importance of streets lights.
He thanked the local MPs for their concern for for the development.
Mr Kalasi said the town was growing with new infrastructure developments and such assistance was appreciated.
He also said such service was important for a town like Kimbe where people from all over the country live.
Mr Kalasi said the onus was now with the people to look after such services and appealed to the general public not to damage the street lights.
“Criminal elements are always taking advantage of darkness of the streets to hold up and terrorise people and street lights is what the public want,” he said.
Mr Kalasi said the provincial government would only increase funding for street lights next year if we look after the existing ones.
Branch manager of PNG Power Korus Lemek, while accepting the cheque, said work would start immediately as some materials were already at the site.
He asked the general public to stay away especially during the construction of the lights for safety reasons.
