Sir Julius plans to go on local tour
NEW Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan is spending the
Christmas period with his people who are living on the outer remote islands.
He will observe Christmas at his home in Huris, Namatanai, then embark on a
four-day visit to Tanga and Anir Islands by boat.
On Tanga, he will meet with people at Minmale and Sunkin villages, the
people who gave him 100% support in the last elections.
He will visit Waramung and Babase on Thursday.
Sir Julius felt that people on these remote islands had been neglected over
the years, and he wanted to spend time with them to discuss challenges and
needs they face.
Meanwhile, a fireworks treat has been planned for Christmas eve and New Year
night.
On New Year’s Day, residents will see a traditional Chinese lion dance.
The spectacle is the initiative of Kavieng businessman Clement Tong, who
said he felt he wanted to give something back to the people for their
support.
