Economic growth increases to 6%

PAPUA New Guinea’s economic growth has increased to over 6%, surpassing its population growth of 2.3 %, a positive sign which Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane said indicated positive outcomes in the coming years.
Sir Paulias said PNG had for the first time since independence witnessed a government complete its full term in office without any votes of no confidence, and this stability in government had contributed to positive results as far as development was concerned.
He was critical of corruption increasing, particularly in the public services, adding that many people did not realise that stealing time was also one form of corruption.
He said many people turn up at work after 8am and waste time doing other things apart from working.
He said such behaviour must stop and added that as a Christian country, everyone must act under Christian principles.
Sir Paulias also challenged every parent to train their children to become purposeful in life, useful, productive and progressive in every sense (PUPPIES), adding that a warm loving family environment will result in less social problems in our society.
He also thanked organisations both here and abroad for their donations and contribution of relief supplies towards flood victims in Oro.
He also reminded each individual to live up to the true meaning of Christmas this festive season.
