Record for Negosa
POM Road Runners assembled for the first of two
Christmas week runs at Ela Beach Tower. The 2.8km was the most popular event
due to the attendance of 25 children from the Kaugere settlement being
trained by long time road runner Titus Tobia.
Young Mela John, new to POMRR, beat the veteran Josek Bomida home in a time
of 9 minute 11 seconds. Lucy Tobia was the first junior female across the
finish line.
The mild conditions and rain during the 4.8km race assisted Noko Negosa to
smash the record to notch up another victory in a time of 17m 13s. Titus
Tobia was runner-up, also breaking the record and super veteran Neil Nichols
finished third. Kesa Nathan returned to the winners circle in taking out the
9.4km event in a time of 39m 59s.
Congratulations to Milton Iakosi who won the 2007 Spring into Summer Series
for the third year in a row. This Saturday POMRR return to Ela Beach.
Lae women invite
AN open invitation is being sent out to all ladies to take part in a nines
rugby league challenge at the Lae Rugby League grounds this Christmas. Lae
rugby league president Russ Kaupa said at the weekend that that they were
organising the nines challenge to give an opportunity to females to take
part in the male dominated body-contact sports.
ěThe inaugural ladies nines league competition is open to any women or
corporate sectors who are willing to register a team or females living in a
settlement or housing commission area to form teams to take part in the
Christmas challenge,î Kaupa said. ěIf the inaugural event proves successful
then it will become an annual Christmas challenge and we will also secure
sponsorship from a corporate sector to sponsor prizes for the teams taking
part in the competition,î he added.
Kaupa said the challenge will run for a few weeks depending on the number of
