Simbu still in darkness

Simbu province has been in total darkness for the last three to four weeks.
Adviser to the Education Department in Simbu, Walkaima Essy last Monday expressed his frustration to the PNG Power Ltd for not fixing the problems resulting in the weeklong blackout.
The total darkness restricting not only the Education Department in doing its daily services, but the whole of the township in doing its daily activities.
He urged PNG Power Ltd to take into account the serious situation and take swift and faster action in bringing power back to the province especially at this time of the year.
Mr Essy told The National that the Education Department in Simbu had for some time run late in terms of finalising and publishing their Grades 9 and 11 selection list for the next academic year.
He pointed out that last week there were only lights during the nights but it was difficult for their administrative officers to work during the night because many of them are females and there is also the problem of transportation in their division.
He said if Papua New Guinea Power Ltd did not act quickly to solve the problem, the department would face other major problems in terms of student allocation of schools for the new term next year as well as late reporting to the Office of Department Higher Education.
He emphasised that they could not type, photocopy or do any administrative work in the department together with other management services.
