Not a difficult year for MTS
THE Madang Resort and Kalibobo village, owned by Melanesian
Tourist Services (MTS), enjoyed record occupancies this year.
MTS managing director and former Madang Regional MP Sir Peter Barter
described 2007 as not “a difficult year”.
After electing not to contest the June elections, a decision rarely seen
among PNG politicians, Sir Peter took the remaining time to oversee his
business operations.
In circulating correspondences to clients on his company’s performance, Sir
Peter said promoting tourism in Madang proved to be successful.
“This is even more meaningful when you consider the additional suites that
have now been opened and a further 14 rooms next month,” he said.
“We have replaced the Melanesian Discoverer with the new luxurious Kalibobo
Spirit which is now available for charters.”
Sir Peter said the Malagan Beach resort would be expanded and Niugini Diving
Adventures further developed in 2008.
He said the success was due to the quality and commitment of his management
and staff who had the interests of guests and clients always at heart.
He said the management and staff would work harder in 2008.
Sir Barter said he had elected not to stand for election and had nominated
and supported Sir Arnold Amet.
“Few politicians have the opportunity of choosing a successor and thanks to
the Madang people, Sir Arnold is now the new governor,” he said.
Sir Peter said he was confident Sir Arnold would continue to work in the
interest of PNG and the Madang people.
