Aid post gets financial boost

A remote aid post in Gumine district, Simbu province, received a timely Christmas present in financial assistance from generous elite from the area.

Robert Nilkare donated K2,000 towards the Omkolai aid post last Wednesday as a special Christmas present because his people heavily relied on the aid post for medical services.
While making the presentation at Omkolai village, Mr Nilkare said the money was from his own pocket allowance he received as a member of the PNG Ports Corporation.
Mr Nilkare said the assistance given would go a long way as there were over 3,000 people from Omkolai, Polma, Tagla and Golin villages across the Maril River relying on the aid post.
He also promised to provide further assistance towards the aid post and also extend his generosity to the Gumine district health centre which was located some distance away from Omkolai.
The students from Gumine High School located at Omkolai also depended on the aid post.
Mr Nilkare also donated K7,500 towards the Kundiawa General Hospital earlier this year as part of his generous gesture to help the sick people of Simbu.
Community leaders from Omkolai thanked Mr Nilkare saying that the aid post did not get any regular support from the Simbu provincial health division.
They said the aid post served 4,000 to 5,000 people of the area, pointing out that there was a need to upgrade it into a Health Centre.
