Kalibobo make early claim for softball title

AFTER losing to Bees in last year’s softball tournament, Kalibobo have made sure that they are well prepared to claim the ultimate title this year.
Their undefeated run throughout the tournament is a credit to their players and team management.
International pitcher Natalie Bart has led the team well with the support of experienced players Lina Vere at short stop, Shirley Gireng at second base and Marcia Tirimu on third. They have also being served well by young high school students June Kakat and Eliz Bart.
Kalibobo will play 09ERS who are placed second while Idmond on third will play last year’s title holders Bees at fourth place. The 09ERS will rely heavily on their batting form to bring them home in the preliminary play-off.
They should be served well by Sussie Darius, Helen Hulo, Kanini sisters Eileen and Marie and Lae Reds import Siloru Zale.
In the sudden death clash Idmond will bank on Jacqueline Takaili on the pitching plate, Margareth Takaili at first base and Rose Cardelsdine at centre out-field to bring them home against the might of the stinging Bees who have another dynamic pitcher in Judith Gabong.
This is an interesting game to watch as both teams have what it takes to get to the top form anywhere on the ladder.
PNG international Caroline Moeder should combine well with Gloria Parkop at third, Bartshipa Markis at second and old hands Sue Tarasomo at first to ensure that they defend their title.
In the men’s race it’s anybody’s game. However, Gigire Development Corporation Kabiu tops the ladder with last year’s title holders 09ERS at second and Colts and Kalibobo bringing up the rear.
GDC Kabiu will have to step up another gear in their batting this coming Saturday if they want to overcome 09ERS who have picked up top form at the right time.
In the do-or-die game Colts will face up to their test against entertainers Kalibobo. Colts have emerged as genuine title contenders after the majority of their players returned to the club this season.
PNG international goalie Godfred Baniau has been magnificent for them and so as David Upaupa at second and Eremas Leslie at short-stop. They are a team that cannot be taken lightly. Kalibobo will have to work overtime to advance to the second play-off against their big hitters.
Kalibobo have reminded all the clubs that they mean business. Their current form is an indication of their hunger to be competitive.
All grand finals will be played on Sunday.
