Uniting youths through sports

THE youths of various United Church circuits at Kokopo, East New Britain, took the Christmas Day out to foster and establish new relationships through sports.
The games of volleyball and six-a-side touch football were played at the Vunamami United Church playground and saw teams from six circuits taking part.
The teams came from church’s circuits as far as Malakuna number four, Takubar, Bitapabeke, Bitavavar and the closer Butuwin and Vunamami.
The games were the first of their kind and were hosted by the recreational section of the Vunamami youths in line with the church’s four-square programmes of education, recreation, service and devotion.
Vunamami United Church minister Reverend Nelson Teko told the youths that sports and games was a way of establishing new relationships, to foster old ones and to bring the youths to have fellowship in union with God.
The volleyball games grand final game was won by the Vunamami mix team while the underdog Butuwin youths dumped the never losing Vunamami team to take home the winning touch rugby trophy.
