A BARGE left Lae for Oro province last Friday afternoon with 60 tonnes of rice and other much needed supplies.

Also shipped on the Bismarck Maritime barge Victoria were K178,000 worth of tools purchased in Lae, provincial disaster and emergency coordinator for Morobe Roy Kamen said while receiving a truck-load of donations from the people of Kainantu district.
“We also purchased tools including bush knives, spades, forks and others for the recovery stag,” Mr Kamen said.
The coordination office at the Morobe disaster office in Lae also bought 200 bags of kaukau from the Highlands last Wednesday.
Some business houses however have been making donations through church and community groups.
The Kainantu district Oro disaster appeal committee led by chairman Andrew Korarone started collecting items for distribution last Dec 6 and with assistance from the district administration reached out to more than 20,000 people in the nearby Agarabi and Kamano language speaking areas.
After wheel burrow pushes, visits to villages and sending out letters of donations the committee came up with 24 kaukau bags, six bags of cabbage, two bales of clothes, and boxes of utencils.
