LIQUOR trading and consumption in Simbu is completely banned during the New Year period.

Simbu provincial police commander Supt Joseph Tondop in his Christmas message warned that anyone found trading and consuming any form of liquor will be dealt with accordingly.
He said policemen in the course of their special festive season operation were on full alert to apprehend individuals, owners of business houses, illegal black market liquor sales and even illegal homebrewers and consumers.
“Youths who become a nuisance in the province following heavy consumption of illegal homebrew and those who serve them will be in serious trouble if they are caught by police,” Supt Tondop said.
He, however, expressed confidence in the level of support the community leaders in the province have been providing him since he assumed his role as PPC since the election period this year.
Supt Tondop said with the good cooperation, the leaders would assist the police to maintain peace and order in the province during the New Year too.
“When I took office here, I have been happy with the level of cooperation from the people and I wish this to continue on next year, if you have information on some illegal activities, please let us know.
“If you see some of my men acting irresponsibly, please report it to me,” he pleaded to leaders in the six districts of Simbu province.
Mr Tondop appealed to the people, who brew homebrew, and deal with marijuana to refrain immediately as their own community leaders would report them to the police.
