400 market vendors get free health checks

ABOUT 400 market vendors at Gordon in Port Moresby have been given free health checks – supported by United Nations (UN) Women and National Capital District Health Services.
Vendors and shoppers at the Gerehu, Gordon and Koki markets underwent blood sugar level and blood pressure tests, and were advised on living healthy.
The health check is part of the UN Women’s Port Moresby Safe City Project monthly community event.
It allows different stakeholders to interact with market vendors and shoppers.
For the market vendors, this was a new experience and many expressed their gratitude for the service.
Those tested included vendors, shoppers, market security guards and clerks, taxi drivers, and Tertiary Vocational Education and Training students.
The project organises monthly community events at the markets to share knowledge, build relations between civil society organisations, market vendors and community members, promote economic opportunities and advocate for the rights of women and girls to access safe public spaces.
