PORT Moresby-based businessman Robert Agarobe who unseated Kila Haoda as the Central governor is keen to get straight to work because there is a lot to be done.
Agarobe, who contested as an independent candidate, was declared the winner after polling 47,383 – well past the absolute majority of 42,146 – at the Murray Barracks counting centre.
Agarobe, who owns the aviation company, Helifix, based in Port Moresby, praised Haoda for his contribution to the province in the past five years which he hoped to emulate.
Agarobe said he would make decisions based on what was in the best interest of his people.
“I have to start thinking about what to do next,” he said.
“But the decisions I make will be for the people.”
Agarobe had unsuccessfully contested the governor’s seat in the National Capital District in 2012.
But he used that experience to contest the regional seat in his home province this year.
“I’m a businessman and that was part of my plan,” Agarobe said.
“It is a marketing strategy that I use. I will now use my experience to help my people.
“We have seen the benefits of the Helifix smart team campaign through the results of this election and I would like to thank everyone for their support.”
