Airport shop keen to promote local designs

CHM is providing a retail platform in one of their shops to the local market for creative talents and to display their products.
Managing director Raymond Chin said they opened last year their premier airport retail shop called “A little something from PNG” at the Jackson International departure terminal.
He said the shop was for visitors to see the beauty of the country “through sight, sound and touch” when they entered the store.
“All the carvings that you see featured on the pillars were custom built, which depict the bird of paradise, crocodile, and other traditional icons,” Chin said.
He said the huge copper beating hanging from the ceiling was of a bilum.
“The music you hear is all recorded locally so the experience will be a special one for the travellers,” Chin said.
We want visitors to leave the country with a positive perception and even take a piece of Papua New Guinea with them and remember how amazing this country is.”
Shop manager Roy Partido said the store also offered an array of special gifts where departing passengers could choose from.
They include  PNG coffee and tea, vanilla beans, Papua New Guinea Hunters merchandise, copper beatings, Papua New Guinea and South Pacific music, Papua New Guinea books, jewelleries, local beer and liquor, post cards, wood carvings, bilum and baskets, Papua New Guinea beauty products   and other Papua New Guinea souvenirs.”
