THE Papua New Guinea Alesco User Group’s sixth annual conference was held in Lae last week.
The two-day conference was opened by Morobe Governor Kelly Naru.
Naru said the Morobe government had places for a large number of public servants – 1700.
“We are not able to fill all these positions but only 900 positions can be accommodated,” Naru said.
He said if all the other positions were filled through the Alesco system, basically utilising “one person, one position, one pay” it would  do good in service delivery in the province. Department of Personnel Management Secretary John Kali said the department was going through preparations for next year’s 2017 budget.
He said there were huge challenges in cash flow faced by the government.
Kali said Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari stated that there would be big cuts in public services.
“But I have been telling the central agency coordination committee that before doing any cut, take a look at the performance of the government departments. Personal involvement and goods and services needed to be looked at when drawing a budget.”
