Alu challenges Team NCD

TEAM NCD chef de mission Numa Alu told The National that the postponement of this year’s PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain, to next year had not hindered the team’s preparations.
“Before the announcement of the deferral, our preparations were on target, with all the teams on their training schedules. But now the Games have been deferred, they have relaxed the frequency of their training,” Alu said.
“Training will pick up intensity again around December/January, but otherwise the preparations have been good and we are on target to do well in Kimbe,” a confident Alu said.
Team NCD topped the medal tally in two successive PNG Games in 2009 and 2012, but fell just short in 2014, finishing second behind hosts Morobe.
The standout performers in the individual sports for Team NCD during last Games, where the women’s boxers, who won five gold medals for Team NCD.
