Apec 2018 is important for the tourism industry because it provides an unique opportunity to market our various tourism products, Tourism Promotion Authority chief executive officer Jerry Agus says.
“Apec is very important for tourism industry in Papua New Guinea because it’s very good for the promotion of the country,” he said.
“There are different tourism products that we market and promote like diving, surfing, trekking and all that.
“One of the products that is aggressively promoted by destinations like Singapore and Malaysia is what we called MICE Tourism – Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions – where people leave their country and go to another place just to have meetings.
“When you have meetings you have a lot of people coming to one particular place. When you look at Apec, it is one of the very important high-profile meetings. When Apec is here, you know that all the leaders of the 21 powerful economies will be here.
“They come with their media teams, they come up with all those important people. The media will be following that in all the different countries.
“In that way, that’s a rare opportunity for us Papua New Guineans to market and promote this beautiful country. There won’t be any other opportunity like this.”
