ANOTHER Aroma Coast team Vewala Pelagai are cruising through the Southern Region League 9s tournament with three wins after round three at the National Football Stadium.
They denied Maopa Kwalu Ragarage 20-10 to remain unbeaten in pool P and are heading for the cup and plate play-offs today.
The Pelagai were boosted by the return of former Port Moresby Vipers player Jarrod Haoda. Haoda said with the support of former PNG Pukpuks Gerry Ware, Roy Ora and seasoned nines player Wari Niuni, their combined experience delivered the results.
“The team has played for about 11 years in the tourney and it was a good opportunity to return and help and support the team comprising village youths to excel further in rugby league,” he said.
“We had to work extra hard to win this match with the opposition stretching us to the limit but luckily we made it through.
“But our biggest challenge will come tomorrow when our opponents will be confirmed after the draws are finalised tonight (last night).”
Ivan Ravu, the director of Sportz Events company, the tournament sponsor, has confirmed that the play-offs and semifinals would be staged today and the preliminary finals and grand final tomorrow.
Ravu said all the teams had come to showcase their potential talents and they raised the eyebrows of selectors for a Central franchise training squad.
