THE Southern Region League Nines tournament which begins on Sunday at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby will be dominated by Aroma Coast teams from Central.
The good news is that the event will be used to select a training squad for a Central franchise in the 2018 Digicel Cup competition.
The organiser of the event, Ivan Ravu of Sportz Events Ltd, said yesterday that Central lodged a bid for a place in the semi-professional competition next year.
Ravu said all players in the tournament will be given a fair chance in the selections for a training squad.
Since the inception of the annual event, teams from Aroma Coast have claimed the crown and cash prize in the grand final. No outside team from Gulf, National Capital District or Western had scooped the top honours.
Without 2016 champions Taurama Gaveraia to defend title, other Aroma Coast teams in Rovanama, Rovanama Green, Marshall Bugs, G-Stones, Gaivakala Sea Eagles and Coast Brothers will vie for the top award.
