Ban lifted only for Milne Bay

THE lifting of the ban on the harvest of sea cucumber next month is only for Milne Bay, according to the National Fisheries Authority.
Managing director John Kasu said the ban would be lifted for other provinces next April.
He was clarifying an announcement by Fisheries Minister Mao Zeming that the moratorium would be lifted in January.
“It’s correct that we will lift the ban. Milne Bay will open in December because it has the bigger total allowable catch of 118 tonnes,” he said.
“But Milne Bay will open for a month only so we can test the management plan. The rest of the country will open on the first week of April.”
Samarai Murua MP Gordon Wesley has thanked the NFA for lifting the ban on harvest of the important marine resource many islanders relied on for their income.
