Ban on teachers commended

THE announcement by the PNG Teaching Service Commission that it will not employ teachers graduating from private colleges (The National, Aug 9) must be commended.
Thumbs up to the commission for using its powers under section 85(1) of the Education Act 1983 and the Teaching Service Act 1988 to ban teachers from private colleges working in our public schools to maintain standards in the teaching profession.
