PORT Moresby Youth Orchestra, a new sound in the city, plans to buy new instruments and music books for children in the band.
The band started off with organising a fundraising dinner that will be held on Saturday (Sept 24).
Music teacher and coordinator Marlene Schutter told The National that she does not know how long the instrument used by the children would last.
She said children needed new instruments because most of what they are using were 25 years old, brought down from Summer Institute of Linguistic and the books were also donated.
Schutter said her vision was to see the children not only in Port Moresby but across the country to have this band and this fundraising will help in expanding the band by buying new instruments and books.
