Barramundis match against Northern Mavericks washed out

PAPUA New Giunea Barramundis’ second match of their South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) Premier League campaign against the Northern Mavericks was abandoned on Sunday after only 24.3 overs due to harsh weather.
After overnight rain reduced the match to 39-over affair, the Hebou Barramundis got off to a disastrous start, stumbling to 6/2 inside five overs after losing Vani Vagi Morea and Lega Siaka.
Then in-form Barramundis captain Assad Vala joined Tony Ura to put on 71 runs at better than a-run-a-ball to shift the momentum back to PNG’s favour.
Then both Ura and Vala were dismissed for 39 runs each to leave the PNG in trouble again at 91/4 in the 19th over.
Mahuru Dai fell three balls later and when Sese Bau was dismissed in the 24th over, the Barramundis were reeling at 115/6.
The heavens opened again only a few minutes later with no more balls being bowled for the remainder of the day.
PNG have the week off and take on the Eastern Edge and Western Grit in two 50-over encounters over the weekend.
Match Summary:
PNG Barramundis 119/6 (24.3) Tony Ura 39, Assad Vala 39, Dogodo Bau 14*, Nick Benton 2-27 (6.3), Austin Umperston 2-19 (5) drew with Northern Mavericks.
