Christian Democratic Party leader and Morobe Governor Kelly Naru says his candidate Patrick Basa’s (Kabwum seat) win yesterday was the first for the new party.
Basa was elected with 6724 votes, finishing ahead of Pangu Pati’s Haring Quoreka (5863).
The Kabwum seat was left vacant after Sir Bob Dadae left to become the governor-general.
“All thanks to God for giving Christian Democratic Party our first MP in Kabwum, and also our first declared MP in the country,” Naru told  The National.
“We have other candidates in Morobe and in the country still in the race.
“We thank all the other candidates in Kabwum who have worked hard in this election.
“Our thanks also to the people of Kabwum for their support, and also other candidates, who have contributed to Patrick’s (Basa) win.”
