THE Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) has partnered ExxonMobil PNG Limited to initiate a youth empowerment programme that incorporates life-skills training and health awareness, using basketball as the medium.
A coaching clinic was piloted with Juni Primary School in Hela last weekend, with participants being taught basketball drills, techniques, life skills training and health education.
The federation invited the PNG Olympic Committee (PNGOC) to promote the Olympic values of respect, friendship and excellence through its coaching programmes.
“To become a good player, you need the proper skills and knowledge,” BFPNG’s Karo Lelai said.
“But having the right attitude and discipline is important in their development for the future of PNG sports.”
