THE two men who died in Kokopo, East New Britain, while working on the city sewerage project last month have been laid to rest.
Raphael Kanini from Birar village and Elias Kanini from Karavi village in Kokopo district died during the Independence anniversary weekend.
They were employed by the China Jhiansu International.
Their funeral last Saturday followed the release of their bodies from the Nonga Hospital morgue.
Acting police commander Senior Inspector Joseph Tabali said the bodies were kept in the morgue for the post-mortem examination.
They were working in a trench along Ralum Road when loose soil buried them.
Police classed it as accidental deaths.
Tabali said post-mortem results showed that Kanini’s death was due to collapsed lungs caused by the lack of oxygen.
Jacob suffered head and neck injuries.
Tabali said investigations into the deaths would be finalised at the end of the month.
The report will be submitted to the divisional police command and ENB administration.
