THE Takubar ward of Kokopo-Vunamami Urban LLG in East New Britain was given K16,260 last Thursday to continue a rural electrification project.
The money is for materials to complete the Kabaleo rural electrification project which will cover almost 2km of low voltage lines.
According to the Kokopo-Vunamami Urban LLG (KVULLG), the project funding was from the provincial service improvement programme (PSIP) fund through the office of the regional MP.
Sir Leo’s project coordinator Albert Buanga when presenting the chequ, said Kabaleo had been a “dark spot” for a long time.
“This rural electrification project will eventually bring electricity into the area,” he said.
Buanga thanked stakeholders, particularly KVULLG, for their continuous partnership in delivering basic services to the people in the district.
It is understood that materials for the project will be supplied by Avenell Engineering Systems Ltd.
Construction and installation will be done by local electrical contractor, Global Dominion.
ENB is one of the leading provinces in rural electrification programmes.
