Bougainvilleans called to work towards referendum

SOUTH Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu says he is ready to take up Bougainville’s fight for independence.
Addressing people at the Piano Catholic Parish on Sunday, Masiu said the Bougainville conflict was a revolution to change the people’s mindset which has been achieved and all Bougainvilleans must work towards realising the dream which they shed blood for.
“PNG got its independence on a golden plate so we are going to get our independence our way,” he said.
“This is why we are reconciling, so that we comply with requirements in order for referendum to be conducted by June 15 2019.
“During the Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) parliament session, I was sorry because the ABG and members did not have the financial capacity to support the referendum activities to prepare our people for referendum.
“It was for this reason that I gave K100,000 of funds for the people South Bougainville to support the work of ABG Bruk Lus Committee.”
Masiu said all the Bougainvillean Members of Parliament have agreed to engage the National Government on the issue of referendum, however, there were only four of them and therefore they did not have the bargaining power.
He said he would continue to talk about referendum because he feared no one except God.
