GOING down to France in the Under-20 Women’s World Cup semifinal was heart-breaking for one of the tournament favourites Japan but coach Asako Takakura congratulated France for making the most of their opportunities and coming out victors in extra-time. “Although we wanted to make it all the way to the grand final, we fell short and credit goes to France for making use of their opportunities to win,” Takakura said.
The former Japanese senior women’s player admitted that they could have won the game but the French defence was too strong and thwarted their attacks at goal.
“We had more goal attempts than France but they took us by surprise in extra-time.
“But we accept the loss and are concentrating on our next game against the US,” Takakura said. Japan will face the US to determine who finishes third at the Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
The game will be played at 4pm on Saturday at the National Football Stadium before the final between France and North Korea.
