Bribery woes feared

ENGA police fear bribery to win votes could lead to fights and violence in the province.
Though evidence was difficult to produce, candidates were known to carry around up to K50,000 to buy votes, provincial police commander George Kakas said.
“Fights may happen between supporters if voters continue to receive payments for their votes and not give their votes to the candidate who is paying,” Kakas told The National.
He said candidates who were involved in the exercise were doing it at their own risk and were incurring costs. Kakas advised them to stop.
“It’s common knowledge in Enga that a candidate can come with K50,000 and buy votes and another candidate can come with another amount.”
