BSP 1 beat Westpac, 33-30 in the grand final of the Private Companies Netball Competition’s premier division yester.
BSP 1, who were defending retained their title after a hard fought win over their fellow bankers.
The PCNC held their finals with teams from division 14 to premier played for the season’s silverware.
The premier division final was played at a high tempo, as both teams tried to catch their opponents out of position.
BSP 1 seemed to be making better use of their pace as they displayed an excellent passing game on their way to the goal circle early in the first half.
However Westpac used the height of their goal shooter Elina Ripason to their advantage as centre Violet Banian made long passes into the BSP goal circle where the dominating Ripason collected the ball and scored gaols.
Both teams cancelled each other out in the first half as the scores were tied at 15-15 at half time.
The tactics of both teams remained the same for most of the second half of the match, the turning point of the game came mid-way in the final quarter as the determined BSP midcourt led by centre Mona Teloti, began to intercept Westpac’s wayward passes stopping scoring chances.
BSP 1 then began to control the centre third dominating possession and providing their ever reliable goal shooters Jacklyn Hape and Renagi Mulina opportunities.
The pair capitalised on their team’s dominance, allowing them to pull away from Westpac and secure a three-point win.
In the division one final Moore Printing beat Air Niugini, 15-12.
In a match which seemed to be heading towards an Air Niugini win, Moore Printing regrouped in the second half to seal victory.
