Bugusu Elementary School in West Yangoru LLG of Yangoru-Saussia district, East Sepik, has a new four-in-one classroom.
The K20,000 building was constructed under the Yangoru-Saussia District Service Improvement Programme (DSIP) thanks to Yangoru-Saussia MP and Trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru.
The school has not received any support in terms of infrastructure since its establishment and Maru’s assistance has been greatly appreciated by the community.
Maru commended the board, school administration and contractors for transparently using the funds to build the classroom.
“Many schools have reputations where project funds were misused by the authorities,” Maru said.
He said he was impressed with the work done.
Maru committed another K50,000 for the construction of a toilet facility and for purchasing teaching materials.
He also committed K250,000 for Bugusu Primary School for the construction of a new Grade 8 classroom.
He said, the ground work of the classroom should commence in mid-December.
“I want the Grade 8 students of Bugusu Primary School to be educated in the best classroom by next year because it will be an important year in their education,” Maru said.
He said education was important and was also a priority under his leadership.
Maru said the free education policy of the current government resulted in an increase of students and shortage of infrastructures.
He said that no secondary schools in East Sepik has made it to the top 40 in the country “and I want this to change.”
