Call for army to remove WWII bomb

WAMPAR local level government (LLG) president Michael Poane says the military should remove a wartime bomb  along 10-Mile outside Lae.
The rusty bomb looking like a cylinder is believe to be from World War II and was discovered by children from the nearby Bubia Primary School a month ago.
Poane, who is also the agriculture chairman for Morobe, said he was concerned about the bomb because it could detonate at any time.
10-Mile is located in Ward 12 of Poane’s Wampar LLG in the Huon Gulf district of Morobe.
The bomb was reported to the army who came and cordoned off the area a month ago but have since not retuned to remove it.
“I understand the bomb is still active and this means that it can explode any time,” Poane said.
“With the bomb still sitting there, people’s lives are at risk.
“I appeal to the bomb experts in the army to come and remove it.”
Poane said there were about 10,000 people living in the vicinity of Ward 12 area.
“We have to prevent this from happening before it’s too late,” Poane said.
Poane said the Moale shop and fuel station, betel nut market, bus stop, soccer field, National Agriculture Research Institute (Nari) office and Bubia Primary School were all located in the vicinity of the bomb.
