Call on leaders to hand over people blocking road

JIWAKA provincial police commander Chief Supt Joseph Tondop is calling on leaders in Jimi to hand over those involved in digging a trench across the road to stop traffic at Namba.
He said traffic flow was disrupted on both sides because of the huge trench they dug across the road.
Tondop said he had warned the leaders to hand over everyone involved.
He said it was the only roadblock in the area and police officers were conducting regular patrols on the roads.
He was responding to a claim by Jimi district law and order spokesman Jeff Gardner that roads leading to three local level governments in Lower, Middle and Upper Jimi had been blocked.
Gardner claimed that roadblocks were common in the electorate with passengers harassed and robbed.
He claimed that some bridges had been removed and schools, including the two high schools at Kol and Kauli, closed.
But Tondop said his office had not received any such reports.
“I challenge leaders who are coming with reports to confront my office instead of the media. I’m not aware of any law-and-order breakdown in Jimi,” Tondop said.
