SOME candidates in Enga have called on election officials to burn in public all the disputed ballot boxes.
The candidates contesting the regional seat and Laiagam-Porgera Open seat included Laken Lepatu Aigilo, John Mukin,
Sandy Talita and Paul Paken Torato.
They wanted polling for the Laiagam-Porgera seat declared failed.
Election manager Anton Iamau declined to comment when contacted at the Wabag Primary School counting centre. He switched off his phone after he was asked to respond to the candidates’ statement.
The candidates marched into town but were stopped at the police barricade while security force officers watched.
The candidates wanted to present their petition to election manager Anton Iamau and provincial police commander
Acting Superintendent George Kakas.
Both failed to turn up.
Aigilo claimed that 80 per cent of the people did not vote because the ballot papers had been tampered with.
Aigilo said because of the polling problems in Laiagam-Porgera, all disputed ballot papers must be burnt in public.
