The vice-province of the Salesian order in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands celebrated its first anniversary on Sunday at the Franciscans Riverside Resort in Bomana, National Capital District.
The anniversary theme was “Men on Fire”, a fitting end to the recently concluded inspiring and missionary motivating retreat.
The event also celebrated the jubilees of a few members of the order.
Fr Valeriano Barbero, who celebrated 50 years of priesthood, was honoured during the event although he was away in Italy.
Fr Angelo Francesco Fazzini celebrated 50 years of religious profession while Fr Alfred Maravilla, Fr Ariel Macatangay and Fr Rogelio Miranda celebrated the silver jubilee of their sacerdotal ordination.
A mass was celebrated during which the confreres were challenged to live a radical and authentic life of joy and commitment.
The library room, soon to be filled with Salesian books and inspirational material was blessed.
A meal and a variety of items, songs and party games then followed on the provincial house rooftop.
Earlier in the day, the participants and aspirants enjoyed each other’s company in the lush green surroundings of the Franciscan Riverside resort.
Football and volleyball games were played.
Some then settled to dominos, darts and cards, while the more adventurous ones dived and lapped around in the cool waters of the Laloki river.
