Cats outwit devils in city AFL

THE fleet-footed Bomana Cats are assured of a top-four finish in Port Moresby AFL if their 30-points win over defending premiers, Concept Koboni, at the Colts Oval on Saturday, is anything to go by.
The devils held the Cats to a narrow 2.4.16 to 1.3.9 half-time deficit, with champion full forward Amua Pirika taking the field for the first time this season, with some fine display of morale-boosting aerial contests.
Pirika teamed up well with Chris Mong, Francis Brown, Paul Philip, Joseph Singura, Chrijen Amona and young Lai Lai to hold the Cats at bay for the best part of the game.
But when it mattered most, the Cats found stability in the second-half with Peter Lavong, Kataha Seewee, Gilmore Morehari, Kelly Kaugla and Jackson Ngawi firing with their usual fast flow-on moves through the midfield to send the defending premiers reeling to yet another plundering defeat.
The Cats won 6.10.46 to 2.4.16 to cement second spot in pool A behind flawless Oilmin Gordon Kokofas.
The unblemished Kokofas proved too strong on Sunday to curtail Lamana Dockers 9.9.63 to 5.5.35 to remain unbeaten in pool A.
In the Pool B match on Saturday, the four competition points were awarded to Central Bombers on forfeit when University Tigers failed to turn up for the match.
The other Pool B match between Taurama Suns and Gerehu Magpies on Sunday was called off.
