CENTRAL Governor Kila Haoda has presented 36 laptops to top performing Grade 10 and 12 students in his province to help them in their studies this year.
During the presentation at the Central provincial government headquarters at Konedobu in Port Moresby on Friday, Haoda said students who worked hard and did well in their studies must be given the motivation and support necessary for them to excel in their studies.
“As parents and as government, we must give our students the motivation they need,” he said.
“Our bright students must be supported and motivated to excel further in their studies so the Central government has made a decision to sponsor Grade 10 and 12 duxes and runners-up with a laptop each.”
He said the 36 laptops, from the Philippines, were worth around K90,000 and purchased using funds from internal revenue.
“These laptops were supposed to be issued to the students during their respective graduations last year,” Haoda said.
“The funds were already paid back then, but the delay was with the supplier from the Philippines.
“But fortunately, they were delivered during this time of the year when the academic year starts and I want our provincial education adviser Philip Alu to do the right thing and ensure these laptops are given to the respective students concerned.”
Alu thanked Haoda and the administration for their continuous support and investment in education and gave assurance that the laptops would be issued to the respective students.
“We thank Governor Haoda and his administration for their continued support and investment in education for our children in our province,” he said.
“We have the names of the students with us so we will call their respective school principals and ensure that they (students) pick up their laptops to use in their studies.”
