PORT Moresby Suburban Rugby League acting chairman Bosky Koke has called on the National Capital District Governor’s office and NCDC sports desk to back them up in this year’s competition.
Koke said that apart from other leagues in the city, the Suburban league competition has always received a lot of support from the NCD Governor for the last eight years.
“As acting chairman I would like to acknowledge Governor Powes Parkop’s office for being our major sponsor and also thank him for his continued support,” he said.
“We need the same kind of gesture and support this year as early as possible as we do not want to run late in Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s main calendar.
“Our aim is to start of the 2017 rugby league competition on time together with other league’s in Port Moresby and around the country following the main PNGRFL schedule.
“If our major sponsor can release funds for Port Moresby Suburban Rugby League on time, that would help us in many ways.”
Koke said last year’s season was disrupted because of funding issues, which resulted in games ending in mid-November last year.
Koke said they completed all the normal rounds of the Suburban 9s last weekend and was looking forward to the finals this weekend.
“I am urging businesses in the city to support the league that is not only promoting the young players but also promoting peace in the communities,” Koke said.
