EAST Sepik Governor Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare has thanked the people for their trust in him to lead them over many years.
Sir Michael was speaking for the last time as the governor during the Independence celebrations in Wewak last Friday.
“Your commitment and loyalty to me as your leader over the last 48 years has not escaped me or my family,” he said.
”We value the responsibility that you have placed on my shoulders for so many years.
“This trust reflects the many good qualities that exist in all of you. And it is these qualities that will carry this province forward into the future.
“Therefore, I urge all Sepiks to harness the goodness and capabilities that are within you and make it work for the betterment of your family, your community, your province and our nation.” He told them that the province will have a new Regional MP after the 2017 general election.
“The election will be completed this time next year and you will have after 49 years a new regional member for East Sepik and importantly, a new governor,” he said. “I, therefore, take a bow today and thank you all again for your support and undying trust in me for the last 48 years.
“I am not going anywhere, Sepik is my home and I will be around to watch our province progress under the new guard.”
