CHIEFS of New Ireland led by Chief Demas Kavavu and political leaders have welcomed an invitation from Bougainville Revolutionary Army commander Sam Kauona for a reconciliation gathering.
The chiefs rallied behind New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan to support the “courageous step for peace” from Kauona.
Kauona declared his political allegiance to the People’s Progress Party and its founder Sir Julius Chan, the New Ireland Governor.
Kauona said Sir Julius had showed the way to address issues.
He said although he participated in reconciliation efforts in Buka and Kavieng, Sir Julius and the PPP should reconcile with the people of Central Bougainville because it was the “nerve center of the conflict”.
Sir Julius said he had kept close and friendly ties with the people of Bougainville through President John Momis.
He said he was encouraged by Kauona’s comments and wanted to strengthen friendship with him and people of Central Bougainville.
