Chinese firm gets road project

CHINA Railway International (CRI) has been awarded the second phase of the Lae to Nadzab four-lane highway construction.
The K135m contract, which will be fully financed by the Government, was executed by Governor-General Bob Dadae on Friday.  The second phase construction will include project-engineering, procurement and upgrading of the 8km road from the 9-Mile to Yalu bridge.
China Railway International has successfully completed phase 1 of the Lae-Nadzab project from Bugandi roundabout to the Wau/Bulolo turnoff, a distance of nine kilometres.
The company’s deputy general manager Mu Guoli said the construction of phase 1 of the project was completed on time and in accordance with the PNG and Australian road standards and specification.
He said CRI been working closely with the Works Department and its engineering team and would continue to do so during phase two of the massive project.
Works Secretary David Wereh said the Lae-Nadzab road was part of the Highlands Highway road reconstruction and upgrading project, which was a high impact project.
He said work on phase two of the project was expected to begin soon.
