MORE than 200 members of Tokarara United Church in NCD have been blessed with a church truck, courtesy of Moresby North-West MP Michael Malabag.
Church leader Rev Vai Boanere thanked Malabag for honouring his commitment and delivering the truck to the church yesterday.
Boanere said it was always a “heart cry” for the church members to have a church truck since the establishment of the church in 1974.
He said the truck would be used to transport church members to church every Sunday for fellowship and other church runs.
“Most church members live far from the church and many times they walk to the church.
“This truck will be used to pick them up and drop them off after service.
“This vehicle will be of great use and is going to bring a lot of relief to our members, especially our mothers,” Boanere told The National.
Malabag, who is also the Minister for Health, made a commitment in 2014 that he would provide a truck to the Tokarara United Church.
He said he would continue to support churches in his electorate through a partnership programme that has been established between his electorate and the churches.
This was because churches are places where people go to seek refuge and comfort.
Malabag said the presentation of the truck was one of the many tangible results from the proper management of the district support improvement programme funds.
He added that he would be visiting the Poreporena United Church, Motu Bible Translation congregation and Tokarara Clinic this week to honour his commitments.
Malabag thanked the O’Neill Government for doing a lot for the country in the last five years.
