Churches launch nationwide prayer, fasting programme

CHURCH leaders in a show of unity launched a 40-day nationwide pray and fast programme last week.
The programme started on March 1 and will end on April 9.
Cardinal Sir John Ribat of the Catholic Church called on Christians throughout the nation to unite and ensure a safe, fair and peaceful election.
Moderator of the United Church in Papua New Guinea Rev Bernard Siai said unity was vital for a safe election.
Siai admitted that he and his church often worked in isolation and vowed to change this.
Chairman of the Body of Christ Rev Joseph Walters stressed that the bigger plan of God and a nation’s needs were bigger than one person and one church group.
The event launched at the Parliament House also took place simultaneously in other provinces.
It was attended by Speaker Theo Zurenuoc, Pomio MP Elias Kapavore, Constitution and Law Reform Commission secretary Dr Eric Kwa, Community Development and Religion secretary Anna Solomon and church leaders.
