NOT even a last-minute change in venue could dampen the enthusiasm of the teams that took part in the Hetura 7s last weekend at the Taurama Barracks oval.
With the playing surface being far from ideal, it was the commitment and the love of the game from players and officials that ensured that the event was successfully completed.
Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union development manager Sailosi Druma told The National: “This was the last leg of the Export Lager 7s series. Despite the poor quality of the playing surface, we were fortunate that  the teams didn’t mind as they just wanted to play. But a lot of teams not really hit their stride.”
The Hetura 7s was the last tournament in the Export Lager 7s series, with tournaments hosted around the country with the aim of providing a higher level of competition for the smaller rugby centres.
The Export Lager National Provincial 7s Championships will be played this weekend at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium. “All the provincial teams have confirmed their participation.”
Teams: Stallions (Dawapia 7’s Rabaul), Harlequins of Lae (Tulait 7’s Goroka), Inter Oil Turagus (Sarawaget 7’s Lae) and Harlequins of POM (Hetura 7’s POM).
