City’s north-west to stage basketball tournament

THE Moresby North West basketball enhancement programme will be staged in late October or early November at the Hohola basketball courts.
The Hohola basketball court is the property of the defunct Port Moresby Basketball Association.
The title of the property was made out to the erstwhile Papua Basketball Association in the early 1960s.
Today, Hohola has two clubs in the PNG Men’s Basketball League competition — Tamaraws and Moresby North-West Jokers.
The majority of the players are from Ward 7.
The enhancement programme was confirmed by local Moresby North-West MP and Minister for Health and HIV/Aids Michael Malabag’s project officer Angus Ali.
Trophies, cash prizes and scholarship awards will be again sponsored by Malabag from his DSIP funds.
Ali said the basketball programme was set aside because touch rugby and volleyball were first on the list to stage their events at Hohola, Tokarara, Waigani and Gerehu, which were completed with presentation of awards and cash prizes on Sunday.
Jokers basketball club will manage the competition for the men’s and women’s open and junior U18 divisions.
“This concept is for the grassroots level in the electorate,” Ali said.
